Planning A Caravan Trip Soon? Don’t Forget To Get Your Caravan Serviced Before You Go!
Published June 8th, 2017
Travelling with a caravan on a break is unlike any other holiday experience. It’s taking your home with you and getting to stay in familiar surroundings, no matter where about in Australia you’re travelling to. It allows you to pick up and take off without worrying about checking in and out of hotels and packing and repacking luggage. It can also save you plenty of time and money, and allow you to experience camping without forgoing certain modern luxuries, like running water and flushing toilets. Whether you use your caravan every few weeks or just once a year, don’t forget that it needs servicing – just like any other vehicle. So what happens when your caravan needs servicing?
While several elements of a car and caravan require similar servicing (including parts like tyres, brakes and suspension) there are many aspects to servicing a caravan that are unique and that require specialised assistance. You will need to make sure that there are no water leaks and tighten all door and window screws. If your caravan operates on gas you will need to inspect all hoses and fittings for leaks as well as the gas bottle mounts.
On the inside of the caravan, you will also need to test the plumbing for leaks, test the interior lighting for faults or trips and make sure that all appliances are secured and will not come loose in motion. Where necessary, you might need to replace batteries for lighting and appliances or get an electrician to check the wiring.
It’s important to only service your caravan with a mechanic that is qualified to do so. The last thing you want is to go to someone unqualified and have them clear your caravan for an upcoming trip, only to have to endure a toilet that won’t flush or lights that won’t work during a time when you should be relaxing.
Thankfully, ABS Auto offers comprehensive and affordable caravan services for all major Australian makes and models, so you will be able to sort out any problems long before you depart for your trip.
